njabulweni School celebrated Eco-Week with activities going on from Grade 0–12. Eco-Week has three objectives, to teach learners about Zero Waste, Biodiversity and Water Conversation. Teachers plan lessons around the theme and decorate their notice boards in celebration of Eco-Week, in order to educate learners about the importance of the concept of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
A whole school assembly is held, after which learners are divided into their different phases and proceed with our annual tree planting ceremony; one tree for each phase!
Trees planted on school grounds provide opportunities for environmental education, getting young children thinking about environmental conversations. Trees provide more than environmental benefits, such as food, clean water & air. Trees clean the air by absorbing harmful chemicals such as nitrogen oxide and remove dust particles which they absorb into their leaves.
The learners, as the primary planters, take ownership of the project and responsibility for the trees.
